Permatex Windshield Repair Kit

Introduction

The Permatex Windshield Repair Kit is designed to make permanent, air-tight repairs of bullseye damage up to 1 1/4 inches (3.17 cm) on most laminated windshield glass. This advanced system allows for professional-quality repairs without the need for mixing, and the resin cures effectively by natural daylight. For optimal results, perform the repair in a shaded area with the windshield temperature between 50°F and 75°F (10°C to 25°C). Avoid direct sunlight until the curing step. Do not perform the repair if the windshield is hot, in direct sunlight, or if rain is expected.

1. Clean Damaged Area: Use the provided push pin to carefully remove any loose pieces of glass from the damaged area. Then, clean the windshield surface around the damage with the alcohol prep pad and allow it to dry completely.
2. Install Adhesive Disc: Peel the backing off one side of the adhesive disc. With the tab pointing upward, line up the hole in the disc with the center of the damaged area. Press the adhesive disc firmly onto the glass, ensuring no air bubbles are trapped.
3. Install Pedestal: Peel the other side of the adhesive disc. Line up the pedestal with the adhesive disc, making sure the tab on the pedestal points upward and matches the tab on the adhesive disc. Firmly press the pedestal against the adhesive disc, ensuring no air bubbles are in the adhesive.
4. Чайыр кошуу: Place the resin tube stem approximately 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) into the pedestal opening. Carefully squeeze the tube to load the resin into the pedestal. Ensure you save a small amount of resin for a later step.
5. Install Plunger: Ensure the plunger is pushed all the way into the syringe prior to use. Carefully and firmly twist the tip of the syringe into the pedestal.
6. Pull Up & Lock (Vacuum): Hold the syringe with one hand and gently pull the plunger upward with the other hand. Lock the plunger at the lowest indent setting by sliding the clip inwards. Allow it to sit for 10 minutes. This creates a vacuum to draw air out of the chip.
7. Push Down & Lock (Pressure): After 10 minutes, temporarily remove the syringe from the pedestal to allow air into the syringe. With the plunger still locked in the lowest indent setting, carefully replace the syringe by twisting the tip into the pedestal. Then, hold the syringe with one hand and gently push the plunger down with the other hand. Lock the plunger at the uppermost indent setting. Allow it to sit for 20 minutes. This applies pressure to force resin into the chip.
8. Remove Pedestal: After 20 minutes, remove the syringe. Using the safety razor, slowly and carefully remove the pedestal and the adhesive disc from the glass. Wipe off any residual resin from the glass.
9. Install Curing Strip: Carefully squeeze any remaining resin onto the curing strip. Place the curing strip over the damaged area to hold in the resin.
10. Remove Air Bubbles & Cure: Use the safety razor to lightly smooth over the curing strip, removing any air bubbles. Allow the repair to cure in direct sunlight for at least 15 minutes. If it is a cloudy day, you may need at least an hour for proper curing.
11. Final Clean-up: Once the resin has cured, carefully remove the curing strip by peeling it away from the windshield. If the surface of the glass is uneven, the safety razor may be used to remove any excess cured resin from the windshield.

Once the repair is complete and the resin has fully cured, the repair is permanent and air-tight. No specific ongoing maintenance is required for the repaired area itself. Continue with regular windshield cleaning and care as you normally would for your vehicle.

• Incomplete Cure: If the resin does not harden after the recommended curing time, ensure the repair was performed in direct sunlight. If it was a cloudy day, extend the curing time to at least one hour.
