4. Operating the U4MIDI WC

The U4MIDI WC is designed for plug-and-play operation across a wide range of devices and operating systems. For advanced configurations, the UxMIDI Tools software provides comprehensive control.

4.1 Plug-and-Play Compatibility

Simply connect the U4MIDI WC to your device (computer, tablet, or smartphone) via USB-C, and it will be recognized automatically. It is compatible with:

4.2 UxMIDI Tools Software

The free UxMIDI Tools application allows you to customize and control the U4MIDI WC's advanced features, including MIDI routing, filtering, and mapping. This software is available for Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android.

4.2.1 MIDI Routing (Split & Merge)

The MIDI Router function in UxMIDI Tools allows you to set up complex MIDI signal flows. You can create one-to-many splits (sending one input to multiple outputs) or many-to-one merges (combining multiple inputs into one output).

4.2.2 MIDI Filtering

Use the MIDI Filter to block specific MIDI messages (e.g., Note On/Off, Control Change, Program Change) or channels from passing through the interface. This is useful for optimizing MIDI traffic and preventing unwanted data.

  • No Power/Indicators Off:

  • No MIDI Signal/Data Flow:
    • Check all MIDI cable connections. Ensure they are properly seated in the correct input/output ports.
    • Verify that your MIDI devices are sending/receiving MIDI data correctly.
    • Open the UxMIDI Tools software and check the MIDI Router settings. Ensure that inputs are correctly routed to desired outputs.
    • Check the MIDI Filter and Mapper settings in UxMIDI Tools. Incorrect settings here can block or alter MIDI messages. Try resetting filters/mappers to default if unsure.
    • Ensure the correct MIDI input/output is selected in your DAW or music application.
  • Device Not Recognized by Computer/Mobile Device:
    • Try connecting the U4MIDI WC to a different USB-C port or a different computer/device to rule out port or device-specific issues.
